I probably don't have much to say that hasn't already been said about this game. I love this game for a few reasons that I'll put in list form.
- The artwork is gorgeous! Even while being 2D, it has an interesting "circular" concept to it. (It isn't a 2D in respect to the way platformers are 2D)
- The story is so intriguing and deep. I like dialogue/extensive story in my games. If you don't, you'll probably just be bored with it.
- It requires a bit of skill or persistence...and intelligence. You have to play stages well to get helpful items, you have to be smart about your space/money/making items, and you'll probably have to play the bosses (especially the dragons) a few times before beating them.
- It has a wide range of characters and, in typical Atlus fashion, is very different from most RPGs.
That about sums it up. Atlus is a pretty obscure game company, so if you base your game decisions on advertising, popularity, etc..well...they don't operate that way. If you enjoy RPGs, it's definitely worth trying.
My only complaint with this game? Lag. I heard this on another review somewhere, where they described the game as "old-school 2D with old-school lag." If there's a lot on the screen, the game tends to be sluggish. It only happened in a few places for me, namely the underworld, where there is a mist/haze/whatever that seems to automatically make it laggy. The fight with the boss in the underworld was painful to say the least.Get more detail about Odin Sphere.
