Def Jam Fight for NY Buy Now

In a strange move for Aki, instead of a straight up wrasslin' sequel to Vendetta, the game has become a fully 3D fighting game. I'm not talking about a game like Tekken or Virtua Fighter, where the graphics are 3D and where side-stepping may be important but gameplay is still mostly 2D based. While not as deep as other fighters, FFNY is truly 3D based fighting. While there are still some wrestling rings available in FFNY, you can also walk around in fully 3D arenas with rowdy interactive crowds, steel cages, night clubs, and even burning buildings.

Aki's roots still shine with a wide variety of grapples (mostly wrestling moves and submissions of course) to choose from, with unique finishers for each character. There's also an amazing story mode (which has some frustrating difficulty) where you can make a customized character that you can pimp out to your heart's content with fight money, though, sadly, you can't specifically pick out customized moves though you can increase your stats, pick finishers, and modify your fighting repertoire by learning certain combinations of fighting styles.

I've owned both the Gamecube and Xbox versions at one point with the only major differences being more compressed video for cutscenes and less custom character voices in the Gamecube version. The Xbox version also will not work on a 360 and since Microsoft will no longer be adding more games to it's backwards compatibility list you'll probably have to settle for the PS2 version which I hear has longer load times but should still have all the custom character voices if that matters to you or the Gamecube version.

Hopefully Aki (now the syn Sophia,Inc) can get it's groove back or another talented developer can look back on Fight For N.Y. and make an even better 3D brawler (instead of flubs like Def Jam Icon) though probably without the expensive Def Jam license.Get more detail about Def Jam Fight for NY.
