Resident Evil: Dead Aim Review

People generally hated Dead Aim's predecessor; Survivor (I actually thought it was a decent FPS) and were weary of another title similar to it. While critics and some gamers are mixed about Dead Aim, I really enjoyed it and it certainly improved on the formula Survivor put out. This will never go down as the greatest Resident Evil title, but it still is a good game worth picking up.
WHAT THE GAME IS: A mix between third-person exploration and puzzle-solving, and first-person shooting. The story stars Bruce McGiven, an anti-Umbrella agent sent by the government to investigate a possible T-Virus outbreak on a cruise ship (Yes, the storyline is similar to the not-so-good Game Boy Color title Resident Evil: Gaiden, but it's better). When he gets their it turns out there is thanks to a madman named Morpheus intent on ruling the world. But it turns out Bruce isn't the only agent sent by a government to investigate. A girl named Fong Ling was sent by the Chinese government to do the same. From then on Bruce and Fong join forces as they try to take down hordes of the undead and several other mutations and take down Morpheus as well.
GRAPHICS: Cutscene visuals look great. Real-time visuals don't look so great thanks to blurry textures and environments that at times lack creativity which will get you lost because they look the same. The graphics as a whole look okay, but after seeing other PS2 games in action, I know it can do better.
MUSIC: The music is fairly good, even though it does feel ripped right out of the 80's. That's what it reminded me of. It's not a bad thing though. I wish the music was there more often because there are long stretches for which it is absent.
SOUND: I was impressed with the sound effects. The guns were loud and matched the weapons they were impersonating. Not to mention the voice-actors were actually good, something you can't really say about the older Resident Evil titles. The undead moaned like you would expect and sounded how they were supposed to.
GAMEPLAY: Using a gun with the PS2 controller feels somewhat sticky because you press R1 to aim and fire and use the right analog stick to aim. There is an option to use the Guncon 2, but as a whole the game works fine on the PS2 controller. The game is very short and can be completed in 2 hours. Most of that time is spent solving simple puzzles and killing zombies and other mutations. This game is quite fun to play, even if you do get lost at certain points because the environments look the same at times. By the game doesn't take place entirely on the ship, so don't think you're going to be stuck on a cruise ship through the entire game. Boss battles had a fair degree of challenge to them, but weren't too frustrating. This game has plenty of enemies to shoot, and even ones you've never seen in any other Resident Evil titles. Overall, the game is a blast to play, even if it is fairly simple.
OVERALL: It's worth a buy to add to your PS2 library. The plot twists and puzzles won't blow anyone away, but this game is fun to spend a few hours playing just blasting away the undead.
THE GOOD: Lots of guns, lots of zombies and creatures to shoot, good cutscene visuals, good music, and good controls.
THE BAD: Game is too short, environments are bland, and some moments of boredom.Get more detail about Resident Evil: Dead Aim.
